Anti-streptolysin O (ASO or ASLO) is the antibody made against streptolysin O, an immunogenic oxygen-labile hemolytic toxin produced by most strains of group A and many strains of group C and G streptococci. Increased ASO titres may be associated with rheumatic fever and acute glomerulonephritis. The results should always be assessed in conjunction with the medical history and clinical findings of the patient. Elevated titres should be monitored every 2 weeks, over a period of 4-6 weeks. Sensitivity of the kit is 200 IU/mL.
