SELENIUM - SERUM
Selenium is one of the essential elements present in over the counter vitamin preparations. It is an anti-oxidant and is also helpful in preventing cancer. The deficiency of this element could cause cardiomyopathy. This test is used to monitor the Selenium replacement therapy and is useful, particularly in the case of patients who don't have a functional bowel movement.
How to prepare for the test?
Specimen should not be collected for 96 hours if Gadolinium or Iodine containing contrast media has been administered. Use only specified containers available from LPL.
