Methylmalonic Acid, Quantitative

This assay is used to detect early or mild vitamin B12 deficiency and to diagnose methylmalonic acidemia in patients. Methylmalonic acid is produced in small amounts and is vital for human metabolism and energy production. MMA is an indicator that detects a Vitamin B12 deficiency. Elevated levels of MMA can detect methylmalonic acidemia in pediatric patients and cobalamin deficiency in adults.
