HIV-I DRUG RESISTANCE ASSAY (PI)

Drug resistance can be measured using either genotypic or phenotypical assays. Genotypic assays detect mutations that result to drug resistance. HIV 1 Genotyping identifies mutations in HIV 1 Reverse Transcriptase & Protease genes. Genotyping helps in guiding initiation or change of anti- HIV 1 treatment regimens. Phenotypic assays are the kind of assays in which a fixed inoculum of HIV-1 is cultured in the presence of serial dilutions of an inhibitory drug.
