COPPER - SERUM
Copper is an essential element that is a cofactor of many enzymes. Copper metabolism is disturbed in Wilson's disease, Menkes disease, Primary Biliary Cirrhosis and Indian childhood cirrhosis. Acute phase reactions have an increase in copper concentration. This copper concentration is found to be decreased in malabsorption, nephrosis and malnutrition. It also helps to monitor patients on nutritional supplementation.
How to prepare for the test?
If Gadolinium or Iodine containing contrast media has been administered, specimen should not be collected for 96 hours. Use only specified containers available from LPL.
