1. Reactive results indicate primary infection, reinfection or reactivation of a latent virus. 2. Non-reactive results do not always exclude the possibility of infection. Patients with non-reactive results in suspected early disease cases should be retested after 3-4 weeks. 3. Equivocal results should be retested after 2 weeks. 4. It is advised to confirm the clinical relevance of reactive results through CMV IgG avidity testing.
