PROCALCITONIN SERUM (QUANTITATIVE)

This test used to diagnose sepsis and to determine the risk of progressing to severe sepsis and sepsis shock. The assay is useful in identifying serious bacterial infections and in distinguishing between bacterial and non-bacterial conditions. Procalcitonin is a substance produced in the body in response to a bacterial infection. The test is also helpful in guiding antibiotic treatment.
