PARATHYROID HORMonE PTH

Most cases of the hospitalized patient suffering from hypercalcemia occurs due to hypercalcemia of maligancy. The excess amount of PTH is not the main cause but, the PTHrP present in the excessive amount is the reason. The test is performed as a diagnostic workup of patients who show signs of hypercalcemia of malignancy and hypercalcemia of unknown origins. The test cannot be used to rule out cancer or screen patients who are suspected to suffer from humor hypercalcemia of malignancy.
