KRAS GENE

This test is used to detect specific mutations of KRAS gene in the DNA of cancer cells and tissues. The assay is useful in detecting all variants of codons 12, 13, and 61. Presence of KRAS mutations renders drugs ineffective in treatment of cancer. About 40% of colon cancer and 20% of lung cancer are known to have KRAS mutations.
