HERPES SIMPLEX VIRAL SEROLOGY ( HSV 1+2 IgM & IgG )

HSV 1 infections are spread through direct contact, typically by non- genital route. HSV 2 infections are acquired usually through sexual contact. This test helps in determining recent exposure to HSV types 1 and 2. Infections are generally visible as blisters and cold sores. The test is particularly useful for the follow-up of pregnant women, who were not previously exposed to HSV-2 and hence, are not protected against the virus.
