D-XYLOSE EXCRETION TEST

This test is done to check the functioning of the intestines. This helps to determine how well the intestines are absorbing the nutrients. D-Xylose is a simple sugar that is easily absorbed by the intestines along with the other nutrients.


How to prepare for the test?

The doctor will ask you to avoid the foods containing pentose for 24 hours before the test. Foods rich in pentose include pastries, jams, fruits, and jellies. The doctor will also ask you to stop taking the medications such as aspirin before the test. You should not eat or drink anything for 8-12 hours before the test except water.
