Aminoaciduria Screening – Urine (SPOT)
There are several types of amino acids that are responsible for building blocks of proteins in the body. It is common for a few of these amino acids to be found in the urine. However, high levels of individual amino acids in the urine indicate issues with metabolism. This condition is known as aminoaciduria. Aminoaciduria screening is recommended in both adults and children to detect this condition.
Why is the test performed?
An aminoaciduria screening test may be recommended to screen adults and children for aminoaciduria, indicated by increased levels of amino acid excretion in the urine owing to metabolic issues.
How is the sample collected?
A clean-catch urine sample is required for the test.
How to prepare for the test?
There is no need to do any preparation for the test. But, it is important for the person taking the test to inform the doctor about all the medicines and supplements that the patient is taking.
