This test is useful in determining Rubella immune status in individuals. A positive result indicates that the patient has been exposed to the virus before or the positive result might also be a response to vaccination. IgM antibodies to Rubella can be detected between 10-25 days after the onset of the infection and 15 to 20 days after vaccination. In case of most infants, congenital rubella can be detected between 2 weeks and 3 months after birth. It's important to note that the presence of IgG antibodies do not exclude the possibility of ongoing infection.
