15 % of gamma globulins are found in IgA of normal serum. Patients with congenital deficiencies are found to have decreased levels. Multiple myeloma and primary systemic amyloidosis are the cases where monoclonal elevation of igA are found. This evaluation is helpful in detection and monitoring of monoclonal gammopathies and primary or secondary immune deficiencies.
