Methylmalonic Acid, Qualitative
This qualitative assay is used to detect early or mild vitamin B12 deficiency and to diagnose methylmalonic acidemia ( rare inherited metabolic disorder) in patients. Methylmalonic acid is produced in small amounts and is vital for human metabolism and energy production. MMA is an indicator that detects a Vitamin B12 deficiency. Elevated levels of MMA can detect methylmalonic acidemia in pediatric patients and cobalamin deficiency in adults.
