World Mental Health Day

Mental Health. It is one of the most stigmatized topics that had been shunned until recent years. When people talked about mental health problems, they blindly associated it with diagnosable mental problems creating a huge gap of misunderstanding about the reality of the situation. Today, when we talk about mental health, we mean taking care of yourself, maintaining a good coping mechanism, having a feasible work-life balance and being able to express and manage a range of positive and negative emotions.

Being mentally healthy doesn’t mean you don’t have a mental problem. It’s a silver lining stating that you can make the most of your potential, cope with life and play your part as a member of society. Everybody is different, everyone deals with situations differently proving a point that each of us has a different approach in ensuring our mental well-being.

Especially during this pandemic, it is hard to truly keep excelling in each aspect of your life, whether it is work, education, the stakes areeven higher now and with that comes the increased burden of trying to strike out a balance to differentiate your responsibilities to others and to yourself.

People who are working, be it freelancers or corporate professionals would understand that it is vital to strike out this balance due to the increasing WFH (Work-From-Home) Culture has developedImagewhich encourages virtual offices and spaces, increasing efficiency but at the cost of eating away into their personal time.

Here’s what you can do to help break even with your responsibilities and relaxations: -

  • Prioritize your timings: Probably the most effective point to be taken which can save you from creating a mountain of pending work at the 11th If you know you have 50 tasks to complete, break it up and time yourself so that you can be effective and complete your work without going on overtime and staying up all night.
  • Have set hours of work: Another strong point to be noted is to have a set timing for your work. It can be hard to execute them but it’s best to not constantly be ideating for solutions for hours and find yourself in a mental block. Take a break, walk around, and get back to your station when you’re ready.
  • Make a workspace of your own: Many seem to ignore this point when it comes to WFH, where they just sit for hours on without looking at their posture. It is to be noted that having an ergonomically designed setting for your workspace can help you work long hours and not end up with body cramps.
  • Exercise: Key point to be followed by everyone is to always find time to exercise, whether it means going for a run, to walk around the park or working out at the gym so that there is more movement of the body.
  • Step-out: Step outside, your world isn’t limited to the screen that you keep staring at from the dawn to dusk. Man is a social animal and hence it is mandatory for you to get outside and away from those four walls that you are bound in.
  • Holidays: Ending it with the obvious, take holidays. Go for a vacation. Yes, amid this pandemic your options are very limited, but the idea is nothing more than to stay away from your mundane 9-5 routine. You have committed to help in growing your company/business but you can’t do that if you aren’t mentally ready to take on tasks.
